The ’14 Day Juice Cleanse Challenge’ is the result of the overwhelming response Krishna and I received from family and friends during our recent 14 Day Juice Cleanse.
I was introduced to Cabala Juice by Don Tolman, who has inspired me in the area of Self-Care and Self-Education. The Challenge is also inspired by background in clinical nutrition, dietitian for Jenny Craig and experience from my Private Practice.
‘CABALA’ stands for Carrot, Apple, Beetroot, Apple, Lemon, Apple
The fruit and vegetables contained in this juice represent the colours of the rainbow and the energy chakras of the body. This is of significance to the mind, body and spirit as it assists in bringing you closer to your ‘raw’ self.
Individual Fruit & Vegetable Effect
Carrot – a great liver cleanser, increases vitality and vigor, richest source of provitamin A, rich in carotenoids to help regulate blood sugar, reduce the risk of heart disease and promote healthy eyes and good vision, assists in releasing excess cholesterol in the body and contains complex carbohydrates for ‘raw’ energy.
Apple – high in soluble fibre which soothes digestion, great for cleansing the subcutaneous tissues where your body stores fat, packed with fiber that lowers cholesterol and terrific source of pectin which helps remove toxins from the intestines.
Beetroot – cleanse the liver and gall bladder, enhances blood circulation and excellent source of Vitamin C to boost your immune system.
Lemon – a potent detoxifier, excellent liver cleanser, kills intestinal parasites such as round-worms, can dissolve gallstones and stimulates digestive juices.

Juicer
The best juicer to use is one with a cold press action as opposed to a centrifugal juicer (most common type of juicer on the market). A cold press juice can be kept for up to 24hrs without significant enzyme, vitamin & mineral losses but a juice made with centrifugal juicer needs to be consumed within 15 minutes.

YOU WILL NEED:
Scales – preferably the bioelectrical impedance variety so you can also monitor body fat and hydration changes daily.
Soft tape measure - The National Heart Foundation of Australia now uses waist circumference over body mass index as a risk factor determinant for heart disease. Use your navel as the landmark to ensure consistency in the measurement. Ideal ranges are: Men less than 94cm Women less than 80cm
Water - drink lots of water 2-3 liters and preferably filtered, to help flush out toxins
Drinking bottles – Stainless steal bottle is preferable over plastic. Most people find preparing sufficient juice in the morning for the whole day works best. After having a glass or two in the morning, we found sipping juice from the bottle throughout the day worked well. Stainless steel will keep the juice fresh longest and hides the contents from prying eyes. We use Eco Tank bottles from our local health food shop.
Drinking straws - it is best to drink juice through a straw. This helps to slow down the rate to consumption and increases the exposure time of the juice to the salivary enzymes allowing for faster assimilation into your body. Holding the juice in your mouth for a few moments and “chew it” before swallowing will further enhance the action of the enzymes in your mouth.
Himalayan Rock Salt - found at health food shops. 2-3 little rocks every hour or so, either dissolved in water or placed directly into tongue. Some of the benefits of Himalayan Salt include:
- supplies the body with the combined energy of 84 essential ionized minerals which the body can hold for up to 24 hours.
- harmonizes the alkaline/acidity balance in the body and assists in normalizing blood pressure.
- dissolve and eliminate sediments associated with kidney stones, gall stones and various forms of rheumatism arthritis.
- helps reduce craving for addictive desires.
- helps with skin diseases by cleaning from inside out.

Apple cider vinegar - always wash your fruit and vegetables. Non organic produce can be washed in the sink with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar for every 1 litre of water. This helps to remove waxes, chemicals, herbicide and pesticides.
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
Young coconut - the water from 1-2 coconuts per day.
Some supermarkets, Asian grocers and fruit and vegetable stores stock young coconuts. If you live on the Gold Coast, I recommend Yuen’s Fruit and Vegetable Specialists, located at the corner of Markeri St and Sunshine Boulevard, Mermaid Waters.
The Kulaway Nut is a well know brand. sunnyparkproduce.com.au/index.php?page=kulaway-nut

Some of the benefits of coconut water include….
- shares the same balance of electrolytes as human plasma? It’s the natural, healthy alternative to manufactured isotonic sports drinks
- great source of potassium – has more potassium than two bananas which is vital for optimal nerve and muscle function and regulating fluid levels within cells.
Please note: the ‘meat’ of young coconuts is extemly nutritious but for the purposes of the cleanse do not consume this. Instead scoop out the meat and freeze for later use (post cleanse) in smoothies.
